Also on Maybank Highway, Johns Island’s weekly farmers market takes place every Saturday from 9:00 am-1:00 pm. At Fat Hen, we have a passion for all things local and sustainable. This farmers market shares that passion with us. With 11 regularly featured farmers, the stands are packed full of the ripest fruits and vegetables and the freshest meats. You’ll even be able to shop local eggs and herbs. It doesn’t stop there though! The square always has food trucks offering up some delicious bites and other local vendors that you can browse. It’s the perfect way to start your weekend!
It’s no secret, we love our Johns Island community! No matter where you’re coming from, you can always find some fun on Johns Island. Whether you’re staycationing or vacationing, Summer is the best time to do a little exploring and discover new things!
So while you’re on Johns Island, here are 3 fun things to make time for this Summer:
The live oak is estimated to be nearly 500 years old. It measures 66 and a half feet tall, and is 28 feet around. This tree throws shade like you’ve never seen. The massive oak produces shade that covers 17,200 square feet. The City of Charleston purchased the tree and the park that encompasses the area in 1991 and it has been open to the public ever since. Plan to pack lunch and find a spot on one of the picnic tables surrounding the tree. This is truly a can’t-miss sight!
Founded in 2015, our Maybank Highway neighbors run a production brewery and taproom that is well worth a visit. They are open Wednesday-Sunday and often have local food trucks stop by to serve up something yummy to pair with their brews. They also love working with others in Food and Bev! They currently have a blonde ale on tap that they created with Charleston Beer Works. And incase you haven’t heard, they are responsible for the creation of our signature beer, Brewdy, a local peach habanero IPA.
